I’ve wrapped up this bit of Motor City history for you in oxidized copper wire. What is Fordite?
Fordite is actually automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished.
Due to years of build up on the spray racks, the paint has layered into beautiful shapes and formations.
Artists have harvested the material and create jewelry and unique works of art.
Because cars are no longer painted using this method, Fordite is often kept as a collector’s item among automobile enthusiasts.
Also known as Detroit Motor Agate, no two pieces are alike.
