Blue Morpho Butterfly Necklace
Midnight Morpho is a Blue Morpho Butterfly Necklace inspired by one of my favorite combinations: brilliant butterfly wings, copper, labradorite, and crystal.
I make many pieces in this style, but each one begins with a different butterfly and takes its own path through the process. Just as no two butterflies are exactly alike, no two Midnight Morpho necklaces ever become exact copies.
The luminous wings shift through electric blue, turquoise, violet, and hints of green depending on the light and viewing angle. Labradorite accents echo those changing colors, while a slender Lemurian quartz crystal forms the body of the butterfly and gives the whole piece its striking centerpiece.
Slowly Metamorphosing in Copper
Each Electroformed Butterfly Necklace spends hours developing in the electroforming tank.
This is where the piece begins its second metamorphosis. Copper slowly builds around the butterfly, tracing the wings and developing texture as the process continues. I guide the shape and add details along the way, but electroforming always brings an element of surprise. The finished copper has its own ridges, textures, and subtle irregularities that make every piece distinct.
I embellish each butterfly individually with labradorite, choosing stones that complement the colors in that particular set of wings.
The copper is sealed with ProtectaClear to help preserve the finish and slow the natural patina process. Copper will still naturally darken and change over time, adding another layer of character as the necklace ages.

The layered copper-finish chains below the butterfly are accented with additional labradorite, adding movement and flashes of color when the necklace is worn.
